We had just assembled the first acoustic elements for the new Zolahr Projects home studio. The parts were still scattered all over the flat. That black and red maze gave the track its name.
Martin played a guitar riff and the idea clicked straight away. We recorded the guitar fairly casually, so voices and other sounds from the room still surface here and there. I kept those takes because the background noise gives the track its own character.
The basic arrangement was finished that same day. The details, mix and mastering took several more months, as they often do.
